How do I transfer a .uk domain?

Transferring .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk domain names is normally a great deal easier than other top level domains (TLDs) such as .com, .net or .org.

You will basically have to change the ISPTAG associated with your domain name. ISPTAGs are used by Nominet to run their automated domain name registration system and associated services. Many domain registration companies supply their customers with a control panel so that customers can make those changes themselves, otherwise you will need to contact your current registrar and ask them to change it for you (you will obviously first need to find out what your new registrar’s ISPTAG is). If your current registrar is not willing to help with the transfer then you can ask Nominet to intervene. For more information on IPSTAGs visit Nominet’s website.

Once you have changed the IPSTAG with your current registrar your new registrar can complete the transfer and move the domain to their name servers.

If you want to find out what is the ISPTAG for a .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk domain name you can run a WHOIS lookup on Nominet’s website. Somewhere in the results you will see the Registrant’s agent heading and then the company name and ISPTAG next to it.

Our IPSTAG is: TUCOWS-CA

Also the name servers you want to use for this process are:

ns.mainnameserver.com
ns2.mainnameserver.com
